How has Starr's environment impacted her life so far?
In the novel, Starr's home life has impacted her in many aspects. For instance, she lives in a very unsafe, unpredictable neighborhood with lots of crime. Starr, being black, has some dangers in that as well. Her whole life no matter where she is, she has always had to be extra careful and aware. Because of where she lives, she has witnessed two of her best friends being killed and she is only 16. Starr experienced more trauma and suffering then most people do in their lifetime. Most people in that neighborhood goes to a not so great school too. Luckily for Starr, she is able to go to a nice school that will help her get farther in the future. Because of this, Starr has been able to experience both sides and knows how lucky she is that she has been given that opportunity.
