The Dystopian Novel "1984" Became More of a Reality; But Why?

"BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU" photo link The novel 1984 by George Orwell became popular in 2017.  In the past few years    people have been contemplating if the government is keeping tabs on them. This connects back to the novel since Big brother is keeping track of the characters every word and action. Because this relates to the real world, this is unsettling for many people. The readers of the novel can connect to the main character, Winston, who dislikes the telescreens and always tries to escape them. They are able to understand Winston's thoughts better than they could of when the novel first came out. According to an article by the  WASHINGTON POST , another reason the book became so much more popular is because when President Trump became president there was a lot of conflict in the very beginning. An “alternative fact” was shared to the world from Donald Trump's press secretary which caused quite a commotion espec...

Stylistic Parody

Image
My Families Noses  Everybody in my family has a different nose. My dads nose, as my mother used to say, reminds her of one of a hawk. Triangular, long and sharp. My mothers nose is wide and rounded. It captures her ethnic background. My sisters nose is small and petite. So misplaced from the rest of ours.  But my nose, my nose, a perfect mix of both my parents, my bridge long and straight but wide and rounded at the tip, the underside upturned proudly showing off my German and Indian decent. Out of all the possible noses I could have received, mine completes my face like the last piece of a puzzle.

Rhetoric Invisalign AD encounter

Image
Invisalign              This Ad was trying to convince people to get Invisalign. It was very bright and colorful which caught my attention. It made me more interested and because of that there’s more of a chance I’d actually watch and listen to it where as other, more dull Ads I would try to skip through as fast as I can. In the advertisement, the  Subject  is that you should get Invisalign over other teeth straightening techniques such as braces. The  Occasion  is located in a teen boys bedroom where he’s playing on the computer. It’s showing that it’s more modern and in the present by the use of technology and the clothing the boy is dressed in. This is directed to more of a teen  Audience.  This Ad appeals to teens more than adults in many ways. For example, teens are more likely to get braces than adults so it would make sense for the Ad to appeal to teens. Also, more teens use technology and this way they’r...

Can Society Function Without Laws?

Image
Order or Chaos Link          Without order and law, society would be inscrutable . To maintain humanity, laws are needed to protect the citizens from showing signs of enmity  towards one another. Laws protect basic human rights and make sure that citizens are safe from others who may try to harm them. The upheaval   from all the chaos that would occur could seriously effect societies thoughts and actions. What would be illegal, like stealing something from a store, would be an everyday thing and people would think that was normal. Everyone's indignation  would eventually make them turn against each other which would lead to murders and car accidents. Those actions would put everyone on edge and the society as a whole would be furtive  all the time.                                    Gun Control Image Link        ...

Writer Identity

Image
"Whats Your Story?" photo link     When I was younger my relationship with writing was amazing and I loved to write. In school we were able to write about our own experiences like our summers and weekends. One writing memory I have from when i was younger is when I wrote about the time I went to Disney World. When I was describing our stay, I felt excitement and joy and never wanted to stop. I was also especially proud of that writing assignment to the point where I really wanted to share my writing to the class first. These days, I still love writing but opportunities to write about my own experiences are quite rare. None of my more recent writing assignments have managed to excite me that much. The writing nowadays is more geared towards novels and poems. However, there are some prompts and topics that definitely excite me more than others. For example, I love symbolism and writing about it. I enjoy digging deeper into the authors meaning which allows me to get i...
